10 Day Garden Route and Cape Town tour

Your private Cape Town Photo Guide will show you the top attractions and take you through the most scenic areas in the Garden Route to ensure you get those perfect photographic shots as you make your way to Cape Town.

Along the route you’ll have the opportunity to see the best of the Garden Route, from visiting the famous Knysna Heads to seeing the Cango Caves and Meerkats in Oudtshoorn and then onto the beautiful Cape Winelands.

We suggest that you spend one night at The Beach Hotel in Port Elizabeth upon arrival to relax after your journey and your guide will join you after breakfast the next day.

Day 1

After meeting your private photo guide in Port Elizabeth, you’ll be taken through the most picturesque landscapes of the Garden Route to Storms River. Lunch will at the Storms River Reserve. There’ll be an easy hike to the river mouth to photograph the swing bridge and the breathtaking views (optional) and you’ll spend the night at a guest lodge in Storms River. 

Day 2

You’ll then travel along the Garden route towards Plettenberg bay and make a stop at the Bloukrans bridge, Africa’s highest bridge, which captures all the tranquility of the Bloukrans River Valley and a preferred spot for photography. The tour will continue onto Wilderness where you’ll have time to explore the area. You may like to visit the local beach, or set off on a hike in one of most beautiful parts of the Garden Route.

Day 3

On day 3, we’ll make our way to Knynsa where we’ll head to the Featherbed Nature reserve for an eco-experience, which includes a buffet lunch. Here, you’ll have the chance to learn about the flora and fauna in the area while enjoying the spectacular views of the famous Knysna Heads. After the Knysna Heads, you’ll be taken back to the Moontide Guest House.

Day 4

You’ll head off to the ostrich capital of the world, Oudtshoorn, which is also home to the famous Cango caves, a natural landmark in South Africa, which consists of a series of hidden chambers cut deep into a thick limestone rock layer. After exploring Oudtshoorn, we will head to the De Zeekoe Guest House for a relaxing evening.

Day 5

It will be an early start to visit the Meerkats in Outdshoorn followed by a drive along the famous Route 62.  We’ll make our way to the beautiful winelands of Franschhoek and stop for lunch along the way.

Day 6

In the morning you’ll be taken to visit some of the best wine farms in the area followed by an afternoon of leisure and time to explore the beautiful town of Franschhoek.

Day 7

From Franschhoek, you’ll travel through to Stellenbosch, also well-known for its wine farms. Lunch will be served at Middlevlei wine estate which is famous for its “boerebraai’s” (traditional South African barbeque), which is an experience in itself.  We’ll make our way to Cape Town where you’ll stay at the Grand Daddy Hotel.

Day 8

Cape Town has a lovely rich cultural history, besides the lovely architecture, the locals bring their own flair to the Mother city with their charming sayings and expressions. You’ll experience the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden situated against the slopes of Table Mountain in Cape Town which offers breathtaking scenery and diverse flora, which is great for macro photography. It is regarded as one the great botanical gardens of the world and a World Heritage site. After the Gardens we’ll make our way to the Bo-Kaap where you’ll experience a Cape Malay lunch with a practical cooking demonstration and in the afternoon you’ll have the chance to relax at your Hotel or visit the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront for an afternoon of shopping.

Day 9

You’ll be collected from the hotel to explore the Peninsula to see the historical bathing boxes of Muizenberg and the cape fur seals at the Fishing Village of Kalk Bay. After visiting Boulders Beach, home to our African Penguins, you’ll be taken to the most Southern Western Tip of the African continent followed by a scenic drive along the coast to capture the spectacular sunset.

Day 10

You’ll be taken to Imizamayethu Township in Hout bay where you’ll meet our local resident Lulama who will take you through the township area pointing out great spots for photography. You’ll visit the NGO local factory shop of the original teabag design and from there you can enjoy a chocolate and pairing tasting in the Constantia Winelands at Groot Constantia, the oldest wine farm in Cape town.

You’ll then be taken to the neighboring wine farm of Constantia Glen for a delicious lunch paired with either another tasting or some good homemade lemonade or ice tea.  After lunch we’ll say our goodbyes. Should you need assistance with any airport transfers, we can gladly arrange that for you at an additional cost.
